Exhibition

My Exhibition idea was based on julian opie's sculpture which he created 3d building and cars to show off his work on a public view.
I will be recreating my animation scene and using installation foam as the base of my building and a print-out of the building to paste it on the foam, the only hard part on making this is the way of the board being cut into the shape altho my building is straight forward vector shape it may be difficult to cut the curve around the lamppost and the car wheels.

First I made a mock up design for my buildings which works quite well using normal foam board, glue stick and a print out of my work, it worked quite well but the way of cutting made it difficult and the making it look neat.

Now that I created my mock up i decide to look for a thicker foam and there I found quite few first I looked at foam board but the thickness is only about 3mm and the price is quite to high so i decided to look for more and found installation foam in B&Q which cost cheaply but the texture isn't as fine as the one in the internet when I bought it it has few paint splatter but the thickness and the size is right.

After I bought the foam i then print out all of my building, lamp post and cars to a large format printer which worked quite well, the only hard part is the way of cutting it using a cutter I started to get the outline of my building onto the foam and slowly cutting it.

It was difficult to get the right angle and doing it neatly made it worst for me, the other one that made it worst is how to make stick to the foam which I had to use a adhesive mount spray which didn't worked out quite well because it melted the foam when I sprayed it, so i decided to use either blue tack or double sided tape which Im hoping that it would work.

FINAL ANIMATION

This time ill be showing parts and sceen of my animation, using all the research that I gather to show what I have learn from all of it.

First is showing the animation i made using flash for the boy in the emotional scene part of my animation and using it into after effect for final animation with the other element in it.

FINAL ANIMATION w/ Sound.

Adding animation with other sound effects such as car traffic, scream, I was thinking of adding few more like children crying, running footstep, but using the right timing and where to place the sound effects. I then found this music box that really suited my theme, I really like the outcome of my animation if had much more time I would like to make each scene longer and more indepth beacause 30 for 3 set of abuse doesnt seem to cut it.

This animation will be showin the boy sitting and being startle by something and on the 2nd animation I will be showing the boy running away from something.

My First Animation.

Animation I did using after effect and illustrator to create that cardboard type feel in to it, Need alot more improvement in the timing and add dramatic sound so it would also fit the scene and the 30sec time limit.

Final Animation.

Final animation which some of my first animation scene were transfer to and create a whole new animation, Im foing to add the sounds after I edit the timing of animation were some of the scene would slow down to create that dramatic effect.

Mood & Feel

Now that I have done the research on how my animation will be I need to set the mood and the feel of the animation I have looked at some animation which has silhouette elements in it.

This animation doesn't really relate to my topic but I like how the camera changes every time they sing and I like how they use simple radial gradient for the background which suited the whole keynotes.

Another Animation From StudioAKA.com which show sports paint balling using small yet funny shaped characters, this animation is an advert for LOVESPORT and the theme is paint balling I like how the paint splatter in the video that made it so realistic and the sound of the paintball shooting.

Game INTRO:
http://www.thankyou.dk/2009/02/io-interactive/

Intro animation for the game MINI NINJA this game was created for children, I choose this because of the style and how the mood on the background fitted the scene and It has that flow on old Japanese texture you see in a Japanese house, I would like to do similar thing but using texture can be found in my house or outside like wallpaper old & new, trees, old shed, etc.

ICELANDAIR Inflight Video.
Another animation which has similarities to my animation, Cut-out board style which require no actual movement of the object but rather flipping and sliding throughout the whole animation, I like the texture of the cut-out you can see that it is made fairly well and the background was set to the right mood of the animation.

Texture

Using Texture to make my animation more realistic I have taken picture that may relate to my theme so choosing wallpaper, wood, table and wooden drawer texture to put into my tress and add that mood for my animation.

Character Research

Creating character for my animation isn't easy I have to create each peiece of my character and try various position, emotion and style to make it more original so I Researched on diffirent kind of Illustration from the BIGACTIVE.com site and found few illustration that may or may not help me develope my struggle to create my perfect character.

Filipe Jardim

My first artist research is a man named Filipe Jardim, his character illustration are more like fashion models because u get the basic shape of a model and using only fine-liner and simple stroke to create that straight lines and curves that made it more like a fashion sketch.

MIMI Leung

This particular artist created her charaters in a style of paint splatter and I think buble gum gave her abit of influence on the strings attached to her characters most of her illustration are colourful and most of her characters doesnt have body which I think is a downfall on her character design but its a good design in my opinion i like how she use laptop, phone, camera in one of her design the illustration is not very detailed but u can tell by its shape and the main thinng that u will notice at first is the colorfull paint character.

Adrian Johnson
Adrian Johnson's style of character are somewhat similar to old cartoon style like samurai jack in catoon network similarities in style and has that abstract feel on each design, I like how he make his patterns abstract and incorporate it in one of his design character like the soldier with so many differnt abstract patterns in his cap and clothes.

Rockwell Parra
All of Parra's character have one thing in common and very obivous to spot from the other research ive look through I chose his style because of not his character but because of that one design that made it more original.
Every character that he made has exaggeratingly have long nose/mouth you cant tell that that is a mouth until it opens and I think he got his inspiration from an ant eater if you see an ant eater it has the same for as his character and most of it have the same similarities.

Tim Burton
Not only at first he was a film director but he was a character designer too, the dark concept of his character that made him his very first movie Night before christmas, that dark, skinny, black and white character inspired me to develop my own individual character, I like his style using undead, sketleton, zombies for his characters and adding dark envirolment really enhance to his character and blend in with the concept.

Animation Development

This is a animation using illustration animation that was made by Parin Sarasin which I think would suite my theme and making it look like a puppet theater style.
I like how the object just pop out, slide and rotated to make the the scene it has that childish type on it and i thin it will suite my animation.

Animation Draft
This is my first animation experimentation and how will my opening sequence will turn up im only using camera transition for the opening scene but creating the background and taking the curtain out will make it more realistic and im going for the style of tim burton on creating my background.

Entrance from M.Alonzo on Vimeo.

First scene of my animation but still needs to adjust the timing and rearrange most of it to make it smooth because at the moment some movement are delayed and slow.

Animation Research

General research on animation which could influence me and give me ideas on who will my sequence will be, Most of the animation on going to put in here are animation and camera transition and motion tracking, I'm achieving to get some initial scene sequence and motion tracking on the character or on the scene.

TIM HOPE
The wolf man by tim hope is one of the animation research that influenced my work.

Chris alt

This is an animation that was made by Chris alt, you can go to his site called ginger finch (www.chirsalt.de), I like the opening scene that start from 0:17-20:00 on how she the building goes out of the frame and zooms in the window were she opened after, that is the kind of sequence I'm looking for to use in my animation although the silhouette character is made from a moving human with the green screen, my initial idea it only use a cut out version of a silhouette with limited movement because my animation will only last for 30sec and I need to get all the three (emotional, sexual & physical abuse) scene in it and I like this kind of animation, and the well thought off, In the near future I might do something similar to this kind of animation.

Animation 2
A simple background made by Eric Gutierrez, which has strong points in it and i like how the background move as the tree moves sideways and forward that made it more realistic.

Animation 3
Animation made by Eric Prah this animation is made using 3D character then imported to after effect then use a silhouette effect to remove the background and created the color background on each movement sequence I like how the background changes on every move, I would like to use this kind of technique using 3D animation and making it into silhouette It would be nice if I use it in my animation.

Animation 4
Another animation style where Anna Zellweger use tracing paper for her animation and stop motion sequence to make her character looks like she's falling down and then going up using a balloon.

Animation 5

Another great animation made by evangelos christopoulos, I think out of all the animation I have researched this would be my favorite the style and how it looked like its 3D even though its actually
2D using camera transition and other 3D style elements like the depth of the lines and shapes.

Animation 6

This particular animation catches my eye on the first glance because the word charcoal being use in animation made me think what would the outcome will be, alesh macak made this possible using stop motion and charcoal the effort on the frames and at the same time keeping then charcoal movement going smoothly along with other elements like the clock rings, tree branch and finally the lamp on which clay and wire were used to create that final scene a well thought animation and a good use of other media.

Developements

Scenario Character

Creating my character is the difficult part of this project for me because I want to create a similar style to Tim Burton but also thinking if the character will move in the animation or it just sit still during the sequence quite hard therefore I decided to create a character that doesn't move so I research again in characters from children's cartoon to movies and adverts, I enjoyed creating character design because of the difficulties it gives such as the shape, style, forms, movement, position and the emotion of it.

Final Character
using my sketches I vectored it using illustrator and adding other position of my character as seen on my mood board then importing it in after effect...

Characters & Storyboard
Story board for my animation on each one will be the sequence and show different scenario like on the first scene will be Emotional Abuse then Sexual Abuse and the last will be Physical Abuse its only a draft animation and I'll do a proper vector story board with my own character which I'm going to developed using influence from artist research on BigActive.com site.
The site have a long range of illustration artist that may give me the right character outcome although the characters and the illustration on that site are colour I'm going to interpret them with silhouette so that it wont interfere with my theme.

CUTOUTS
This is the cut-out version of my character on which I'm going to vectorised and put into my animation,I created the boy's part separately because if I needed to move some part or re-use it again for other sequence, I also added a Stage Curtain cut-out so the animation will look more similar to a shadow puppet show, this too will be vectorised and put on animation at the start.

Character Design
This are my character design that I created and all of these are based on my research on character and a wide range of illustration, I made my character simple because I'm going for a simple silhouette animation and even thought its silhouette adding emotion and other elements that may help the audience understand what's happening on the scene/sequence.

Character Design Vector

A vector version of my characters on which I have to present on the class taking the silhouette style with some minor detail so character will be easy enough identify by the viewers, making this character took me few minutes but I have not yet try to animate silhouette character most of the silhouette characters I have seen are humans in a green wall/board then remove the background and turn them into silhouette.
